An earthquake swarm is a sequence of many earthquakes that occur in the same area over a short period of time without one clear “mainshock.” Instead of a single large quake followed by smaller aftershocks, a swarm is made up of multiple events of similar size, sometimes spread over days, weeks, or even months.
