Bear hit by car later found dead
The News 4 site reported today that a bear had been hit by a car near the Big yTex Trailer lot just north of Andrew Lane along old 395 in Pleasant Valley at about 9:30pm last Thursday.
NDOW staff searched the area and was unable to find the bear. Later, a resident reported finding the bear nearby that was deceased. An examination revealed it was about 15 years old and weighed about 500 pounds. It is expected that the bear is the one visiting multiple properties in the last weeks.
The motorist hit the bear and it wandered off. Authorities searched with a bear sniffing dog but were unsuccessful. A nearby resident later found the bear deceased.
Residents are reminded to beware wildlife along the highways especially in the dusk/dawn hours of maximum activity. Also ensure trash and other inducements for wildlife to congregate in urban areas are removed.
