As many have already heard, a new Costco is planned for the vacant 16 acres at the northeast corner of Hwy 431 (Mt Rose Hwy) and South Virginia. The plans call for the warehouse store, gas station and car wash. The plans also hope to connect Damonte Ranch Parkway with Veterans Parkway although land acquisition hasn’t been available at this time. An alternate route is connection to Old Virginia Road.
The project, Steamboat Creek Commons, is still in the planning and approval stages and no construction schedule has been set that we know of. This is in the City of Reno so their planning department is the approval agency.
Here's the developers splashy video on the project (YouTube). Doesn't say much but shows the basic configuration. They are also planning on an adjacent residential project apparently.
Update July 13, 2026:
Whether there is actually a Costco planned at the NE intersection Hwy 341 and South Virginia St has come up in a recent Nextdoor post. We did some google searching for any recent news. While the plan was originally reported by KOLO and KTVN last October, 2025, there is no official announcements found. KTVN reported at the time that a permit had been filed with the City of Reno but a couple days later retracted that when Reno said there was no permit.
On June 6, 2026, however, the city issued a list of recent permit filings that have been rejected. The South Reno Costco is on that list having been rejected on October 8, 2025.
So we know that Costco did have plans for that site at that time. Will keep you informed of new information.
From the Lewis Retail Center's (Developer) property brochure as of July 13, 2026. The site map does show a Costco style gas station in the upper left corner:
